The Psychology of Weight Loss

Losing weight requires more than a physical commitment - the mental aspect is also vitally important. When it comes to fitness, the mind truly is a powerful thing.

Have doubts that there is a mind-body connection to wellness? Simply try this easy test: do a workout of your choice (running, walking, lifting weights) with your favorite pump-up music. Then do it a separate time with no music at all. You’ll quickly see how the simplicity of motivating music can help you go farther, faster or simply feel stronger during your routine. Loving Our Bodies “As Is”: Three Fun, Funny, No-Fail Techniques

I’m Talking to You!

I heard you groan when you read the title.  I know what you are thinking: “Not me.  Not ever!  I am too disgusting, too fat, too ugly, too unacceptable, too rejected, too skinny, too pock-marked, too flat-chested . . .”  I have heard it all and said much of it to myself.

Taking Absolute Control of Your Life

Choice begins the moment you disidentify from the mind and its conditioned patterns, the moment you become present.
- Eckhart Tolle, Author of The Power of Now

I am an amateur photographer who has come happily bounding into the new age of digital photography. Using a film camera is no longer an option for me. I just can’t wait to have film developed to see my creations. Continue reading →

Avoiding Emotional Over Eating And Minimize Stress

Being stressed, overwhelmed and over-tired is one of the primary causes of over eating. When we are worn out, we are much less able to resist temptation and much more likely to try to sooth or revive ourselves by over eating.

My tip for minimizing stress-related emotional over eating: learn to say “no” so that you can say “yes.”

We can only do what we can do. Really. And,if we want to do it well, we should usually only try to do one thing at a time. I’ve worked with many women who seemed to believe that if they tried hard enough or learned to get it just right, they would find a way to plant more hours in their day and get more done. Not true. Actually, sometimes the mark of a truly competent person is being able to say (with great truthfulness), “This is really all that I can do.” Continue reading →

6 Weeks To A 6-Pack

So let’s get to it. Here are the experts’ choices on the most effective abdominal exercises. These should be performed two to three times weekly (for beginners, two is plenty to start). Each exercise should be executed until the point of momentary muscular failure, which should happen between 30 and 90 seconds. This is considered one set, which should be no more than 15 to 20 repetitions. Rest for 30 to 60 seconds. Concentrate on performing each exercise slowly with good form. Work up to completing two to three sets of each exercise. Continue reading →
