Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the company to proceed under its current Investigational New Drug to conduct a pilot Phase II clinical trial of its drug afamelanotide (known as SCENESSE®) in patients diagnosed with nonsegmental vitiligo.

If you are interested in participating in the CUV101 clinical trial, please read the following document and contact your treating dermatologist or physician first, asking them whether they believe you are a good candidate to participate in clinical trials. Sharing this document with your dermatologist or physician will assist them in making this evaluation.

I will discuss the emotional issues facing people living with vitiligo, review current vitiligo treatments, and investigate new vitiligo treatments being pursued by the medical community. In an effort to bring those who have vitiligo closer to those searching for a cure, I will be doing live interviews with doctors, scientists, & pharmaceutical companies, where you can call in and ask questions directly to these professionals.

You may not know this about me, but I can be pretty bashful around people I do not know. I hide it well, though, because I force myself to do things out of my comfort zone. This shyness started long before my vitiligo appeared, so I can’t blame that. But I can say that when I don’t bother to put my cover lotion on the white patches, I am even self-conscious around my friends. Funny thing about that is that they always tell me that they don’t even notice it. Ha, why are we so hard on ourselves because our skin is different?

Tonight while shopping I saw a woman with vitiligo standing about 3 feet away from me. There was a man on her other side and I noticed that she caught a glance from him and immediately looked downwards while sliding her vitiligo covered hand into her coat pocket. (Does this sound familiar to you?)
