FDA allows Clinuvel’s innovative vitiligo trial

Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the company to proceed under its current Investigational New Drug to conduct a pilot Phase II clinical trial of its drug afamelanotide (known as SCENESSE®) in patients diagnosed with nonsegmental vitiligo.

You may not know this about me, but I can be pretty bashful around people I do not know. I hide it well, though, because I force myself to do things out of my comfort zone. This shyness started long before my vitiligo appeared, so I can’t blame that. But I can say that when I don’t bother to put my cover lotion on the white patches, I am even self-conscious around my friends. Funny thing about that is that they always tell me that they don’t even notice it. Ha, why are we so hard on ourselves because our skin is different?



Talking to a stranger with vitiligo

Tonight while shopping I saw a woman with vitiligo standing about 3 feet away from me. There was a man on her other side and I noticed that she caught a glance from him and immediately looked downwards while sliding her vitiligo covered hand into her coat pocket. (Does this sound familiar to you?)
